In 1972, after the independence of Bangladesh, two separate ministries were formed in the name of the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation and Ministry of Food.
In 1982, the two ministries were consolidated and under the Ministry of Food, there are two divisions called Department of Food and Relief and Rehabilitation.
In 1988, the Relief and Rehabilitation Department was renamed as the Ministry of Relief.
The Ministry of Relief in the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in 1994
Ministry of Food and Disaster Management was formed in 2004 by integrating the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and Food Ministry.
In 2009, the Department of Food and Disaster Management and Relief Division was formed under the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management.
In 2012, the Disaster Management and Relief Division was reverted to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
